Quartersawn Redwood Parquet Table
Designed for an intimate outdoor seating area, this 40×40 inch low table is milled from quartersawn, knot-free redwood — a wood prized for its resistance to warping and weathering. The frame is joined with hardwood mortise and tenon joinery, pinned with walnut for rock-solid mechanical strength that needs no fasteners to hide.
The centerpiece is the tabletop itself: a parquet pattern of four mitered quadrants, each filled with closely spaced redwood slats running in alternating directions. The result is a surface with the visual rhythm of traditional inlaid flooring, reimagined in a single species. Below, a slatted shelf on the lower stretchers adds practical storage, while height-adjustable feet protect the wood and keep the table level on uneven surfaces.
