Writer's desk
A good writing desk asks little of the room and much of the person sitting at it. This one is compact enough for a small bedroom or a corner of a larger space, but full-sized enough for serious work — a laptop, a notebook, the small architecture of a productive surface. A full-width drawer keeps the essentials close without cluttering the top.
The two-tone construction — a rich walnut top on tapered maple legs — gives the piece a mid-century lightness while grounding it with the warmth of the darker wood. The contrast deepens as the walnut ages, making the desk a different object in five years than it is today. Mortise and tenon joinery throughout. Built to order.
Shown on the desk is a small treasure box, also available to order: a playful, organic form shaped from an assortment of colorful hardwoods — purpleheart, iroko, maple, and others — sized for a child’s jewelry or any collection of small things that deserves a beautiful home.
