Heirloom bed

The headboard and footboard of this bed are built from curly maple — a wood whose chatoyance, that shifting, three-dimensional shimmer, makes every board a moving target for the eye. Set within cherry posts and rails whose warm tones deepen with age, the maple panels seem to glow from within. The headboard’s convex arc answers the concave curve of the footboard across the length of the bed — a call and response that gives the piece its settled, considered character.

Douglas fir slats span the rails, providing a resilient and supportive foundation for the mattress without the need for a box spring. The rails detach for moving, making the bed practical as well as beautiful.

This is a piece built to outlast its first owner — hence the name. Built to order in the wood species of your choice.
