Shiro Bed

The Shiro joint — a three-way interlock combining a half-lap cross joint with an intersecting bridle joint — is one of the more elegant solutions in the Japanese joinery tradition. Each joint assembles and disassembles by hand, without tools or hardware, and locks under the weight it bears. This bed is built entirely on that principle: every connection is a Shiro joint, and the whole frame breaks down into pieces that fit in a small vehicle.

That makes it an honest companion for anyone who moves frequently — students, renters, people who haven’t decided where they’ll be in five years. The bed goes up in minutes and comes apart just as quickly, without bolts to strip or allen keys to lose. What it doesn’t sacrifice is solidity: assembled, it is as rigid and quiet as any bed in the portfolio.

The cherry frame is clean-lined and low, in the platform tradition. Built to order; wood species can be varied to suit.
